The Launching
It
was the launching night of St. Scholastica’s Bacolod Alumnae Foundation
and the Awarding of the St. Scholastican Alumnae Achievers. Guests were greeted
with welcome drinks at the ballroom which was decorated with blue and sliver
balls, lights also wrapped in blue, and accented with pine cones and pine leaves.

It
was an entertaining evening as we saw various Scholastican talents perform,
but the climax was a dramatic toast to the new Foundation with confetti pops
raining down on everyone.
The vision and mission of the Foundation was explained, and a touching testimony
was given by Dr. Ceres Baldevia Gay of how Scholasticans were able to touch
the lives of others as in the future operation of the Siamese twins now in New
York.
After the launching of the Foundation, the attention of the guests were called
to the little silver pails on every table with IOU’s and a sizeable amount
was collected! Thank you.
The
moment everyone was waiting for came with the grand draw for the Gifts of the
Heart raffle, with a major prize of P1 million drawn by Gov. Joseph Marañon.
Susan Locsin of Class ’66 topped the individual seller category.
After dinner, tasty pica-pica of queso de bola, frits, ham, pepperoni, apple
tarts were served around with the music of the Grupo Maria teves and the Scholasticans
danced to their hearts’content.
It occurred to me as I was seated beside Ms. Tima Lacson with her batchmates
of batch ’69 that this was indeed a one of a kind occasion, in the history
of St. Scholastica. To all the awardees. My congratulations and to the Foundation
and its members, may you touch more lives than your have envisioned.
REMEMBER: Count your age by friends – not years. Count your life by smiles
– not tears.
